Commissioner John Reed has served in his position since 2008, and he brings with him a wealth of expertise to this role. Commissioner Reed has 35 years of experience in banking, and he has utilized that knowledge during his time on the Board of Commissioners to work effectively on behalf of Brownsville residents and businesses.

Commissioner Reed has been a leading force in the work to promote the Port of Brownsville, including establishing the necessary infrastructure for the growing market. In addition to his work fostering business expansion in Brownsville, Commissioner Reed also serves on numerous committees and boards, including the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce, Brownsville Economic Development Corporation (BEDC), Brownsville Boys and Girls Club, Brownsville & Rio Grande International Railroad, Southmost Regional Water Authority, Valley Regional Medical Center, the Dean Porter Park Renovation Committee, and more. A Brownsville native, Commissioner Reed now lives in Rancho Viejo.
